VINYASA & ZAZEN YOGA HOLIDAY
WITH
ANDREAS WISNIEWSKI & JENNY TONGE
4-11 October 2010
With at least 25 hours of practise in sessions
of 2½ hour duration featuring vinyasa yoga,
relaxation, meditation and Big Mind this
event intends to strike the balance between a
holiday and a retreat. There shall be plenty of
time to allow for exploration of the environs
and/or plenty of quiet enjoyment of the
location while permitting to delve more
deeply into the yoga experience than is
ordinarily possible.
Beginners as well as more experienced
students are catered to by the use of
progressive sequencing, making the practice
challenging to all students at their own pace.
Naturally we will make time to address
individual needs.
Vinyasa Yoga is a 3000-year old Indian
tradition which can be viewed as an
optimization program for the body/mind. In
contrast to other styles of physical yoga,
vinyasa (often translated as flow)
emphasizes the simultaneous practise of the
ashta angas (eight limbs of Yoga acc. to
Patanjali). To this avail asanas (postures) are
linked to sequences of meditatively flowing
movements, supported by bandhas
(energetic locks) and coordinated with
breathing.
We will also use the Big Mind Process
(devised by Zen Master Genpo Roshi) to
achieve accelerated results in the practise of
Zazen. Zen has focused for centuries on
breakthrough techniques in order to
overcome the limitations of the ego and
achieve absolute and transcendental states.
Andreas Wisniewski
Andreas teaches a powerful, intense, yet
light hearted yoga class.
Originally trained as a dancer, he came to
yoga as a means of rehabilitating an injury
and immediately knew that he would be
practicing for the rest of his life. He studied
various styles of physical yoga with teachers
such as Erich Schiffmann, Kisen, John Scott,
Shandor Ramete, Godfrey Devereaux, as
well as Zen under Genpo Roshi and Tenkei
Roshi. A teacher training course he entered
only to deepen his own practice turned into
an avalanche, and Andreas has taught yoga
ever since.
Andreas' approach is multi-faceted. Focus,
flexibility, strength, stamina, alignment,
attitude, balance, relaxation, breath control,
mindfulness, empowerment, and meditation
all receive their due consideration.
In 15 years Andreas has taught open and
private classes, workshops and retreats on
four continents. He currently resides and
teaches in Berlin.
His students range from celebrities of stage,
screen and board room to children, friends
and Jenny.
He runs YogaSquad, a company that offers
bespoke yoga and meditation programs in
corporate environments, is empowered as a
Reiki Master, was ordained in 2007 as a
monk in the tradition of Soto Zen, and is
licensed Big Mind facilitator.
Jenny Tonge
Jenny Tonge trained as a yoga teacher at the
Life Centre in London after discovering the
joy and freedom of the practice in Andreas
Wisniewski´s teaching. Rod Stryker, Tias
Little, Aadil Palkilvala and the Jivamukti
teachers also all influenced her current
teaching style for which she is grateful.
After studying at Oxford University she
experienced a range of health problems
found commonly in city and professional
life.Wanting to heal herself she left a
stressful career in journalism and studied
natural medicine with Westminster
University before her yoga teacher training.
The yoga practise enabled her to work
through her own health problems such as
IBS, fatigue and depression, and this
experience of taking responsibility for the
self informs her teaching. Jenny sees the
yoga and meditation practice as an
opportunity for people to heal and develop
their lives. Her teaching style emphasises the
correct alignment and symmetry of the
asanas, using tension releasing holds, and
gentle adjustments. She has taught company
executives in the London finance
community for the past five years, as well as
private remedial and general classes in
London.
